Lead Climbing

For this class you must be able to climb a 5.9 or harder

Class description:

  • A 2-3 hour class that will help climbers make the transition from top roping to lead climbing.
  • Learn how to belay safely for a lead climber. This includes proper safety checks, spotting, rope handling, and catching lead falls.
  • Learn safe lead climbing practices, and learn the “dos and dont’s” of clipping.
  • Practice falling and catching while being supervised and backed-up by the instructors.
  • Lead climbing/belaying test.
  • Climbers who pass will be certified to lead at all Central Rock facilities.

Cost: $75 for non-members; $60 for members

NOTE: Classes will be limited to the first 6 people who sign-up in advance or show up at the gym the day of.

INSTRUCTORS:

Elena Kangas: A manager at CRG Worcester, Elena has 5+ years of climbing experience predominantly focusing on trad climbing in the great outdoors.  She is a certified outdoor climbing guide and currently runs the lead climbing course at the gym.

Joey Bianchi: Joey developed a passion for the great outdoors while studying Economics at Worcester State University.  Joey has become an avid climber while working for Central Rock in his spare time enjoying the dificulties that lead climbing provide and learning the ropes turning the wrench as a part time setting for the facility.
