Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of questions frequently asked by visitors to our facility. If you have a question that we have not addressed below, please feel free to contact us at (413) 584-7625.

How do I get to your facility?

We are located right off of Route 9 in Hadley. See link to our googlemap location.

What types of climbing are available?

We have top-rope climbing, lead-climbing, and bouldering at our facility. Top-rope climbing requires that climbers know how to belay and tie a figure-8 follow through knot. Click here for beginner belay class information and times.

Lead climbing requires that each climber be certified by the facility staff. Climbers who are new to leading must take our instruction lead climbing course. Check our events tab for information about our next lead class.

What do I need to bring with me to climb?

You want to wear clothes that do not restrict your movement while also not being too baggy. Baggy clothes will get in the way of your equipment while you are climbing. It is recommended that you wear shorts or pants that do not need a belt.

Why do I need a waiver?

Climbing is an inherently dangerous sport. We go to great lengths to make our facilities as safe as possible to ensure that patrons of the facility are safe. That said, we require a waiver from every visitor to the gym in order to stay in operation and for insurance purposes.

What is “belaying” and how do I learn?

Belaying is the process of managing the rope so that the person climbing does not fall to the ground when coming off of the climbing wall. Belayers are also responsible for lowering the climber when they reach the top. We provide a 1-hour instructional class on belaying throughout the week. Please see our Belay Instructional page for more information.

I don’t want to climb. What else can I do?

We have a full set of cardio machines and free weights available at the facility for members and day pass users. We also offer yoga classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7-8PM.  Yoga is only $3 with purchase of a day pass, and free for members!

Do you run any special deals during the week?

We have various deals 5 days a week; including Ladies Night, Guy’s Night, College Night with FREE pizza, High School night, and Family night. Pricing and more information can be found here.

Do you have WIFI?

We have FREE WIFI at our facility and a nice comfy couch for chilling out and surfing the web.

Do you have lockers?

We provide lockers at our facility for your convenience, but we DO NOT provide locks, so please bring your own when you come.

What types of memberships are offered?

We offer various membership packages throughout EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) membership: $55/month for adults, $45/month for students and military personnel, and $89/month for families of 2 ($20 for each additional).

Don’t want to do monthly charges? Pay by the month for $69.

What kind of instruction is offered at CRG?

We are developing an entire series of classes geared toward both novice and experienced climbers. Currently, we offer a beginner and intermediate technique class (more info here) and a beginner lead climbing class (more info here).

More to come including a bouldering specific clinic, a health and injury prevention clinic, and a lead climbing technique class.

How do I set up private sessions?

Private sessions can be set up with one of our instructors, but we prefer to get climbers placed into the group setting that our regularly scheduled clinics offer. If those days don’t work, just give us a call and we’ll arrange something that works for you.

Do we have anything for kids?

We have a section of our gym dedicated to child friendly climbs. These walls are 12 feet shorter in height, making it easier to communicate between the climber and belayer, and make the climber feel more comfortable in a unique environment.

We also have numerous programs that are geared toward children including, birthday parties, summer camps,  a youth climbing team, lock-ins, and Let-us-Belay (See Rates) where our staff does the belaying. Follow each of the links for more details.
